Prams are usually used before strollers since it is very important for young babies to lie flat to insure a good spinal development. Nowadays there are different types of prams available: coach-built prams and two-in-one and three-in-one prams/strollers
Coach-built prams are traditional baby carriers with large wheels, a wide hood, good suspension, and plenty of room for a baby to lie down. These prams are very comfortable for babies and usually last for generations. Unfortunately they are quite bulky and expensive, and as the baby gets older parents usually end up needing a stroller instead.
The two-in-one and three-in-one prams/strollers are the modern version of the pram and are suitable for a newborn baby.
The two-in-one pram/stroller has chassis with a detachable seat unit with a hood that allows the baby to lie flat or sit up by converting into a stroller.
The three-in-one pram/stroller obviously gets the same features as the two-in-one but also includes a detachable carrycot. This pram offers more room than the two-in-one and the detachable carrycot is suitable for overnight sleeping and allows parents to move it without disturbing baby.
